It was a cool day in the autumn of 2016 when we met. Michele headed out that afternoon to partake of two of her favorite things; rummage sales and animal welfare (not necessarily in that order). And there he was. Our eyes met across the .99 cent table, he was in the Kissing Booth and swarmed with admirers. He was short, dark & handsome. I knew then and there I shouldn’t risk it, but I couldn’t help myself. I paid my $5.00, we kissed and the rest is history. His litter was being fostered by the family that hosted the rummage sale (thank you foster families!) Eleanor was our friendly & knowledgeable adoption counselor. We took him home and named him Bayard after the dog in the movie Alice in Wonderland. His Ojibwe name is Nibi Ganawenden – water guardian.

We can’t say enough about CHA and the amazing services they provide in our area! If you’re ever in need of a kiss look for Bayard by the lake. He won’t even charge you $5.00, but he encourages you to donate that (and more) to his friends at CHA!
